1996 College Football Hall of Fame Member to speak in support of fundraising efforts to benefit aspiring scholar-athletes in the Dallas-Fort Worth community

DALLAS, Texas (Feb. 15, 2024) – The NFF Gridiron Club of Dallas, the north Texas chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame, Inc., has selected former Northwestern State University linebacker and nine-year National Football League veteran, Gary Reasons, as the featured speaker for its 2nd annual charity golf tournament. Reasons was selected to the 1996 College Football Hall of Fame Class by the National Football Foundation alongside other notables such as Terry Bradshaw, Walter Payton, and Charles White.

Reasons came out of Crowley, Texas, to star as a linebacker at Northwestern State University in Louisiana. He was the first player to be named three times to the Division 1-AA All-America team picked by the American Football Coaches Association.

Reasons set school records with 172 tackles in a season and 394 tackles in his career. He made 24 tackles in a game against McNeese State. In 1983 the Louisiana Sports Writers Association voted Reasons the No. 1 defensive player in the state. The school retired his jersey, No. 34. Reasons was an honor student and graduated with a degree in business administration. He stood 6-4 in height and weighed 235. Reasons became a starter midway through his freshman season at Northwestern State. In 1998, Reasons was inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.

In 1984, Reasons was a fourth-round draft pick by the New York Giants. Throughout his eight seasons (1984-91) with the Giants, Reasons became known as a member of one of the greatest linebacker corps in NFL history along with Lawrence Taylor, Harry Carson, and Carl Banks. He earned personal recognition for his smart and hard-hitting style of play over his career by being selected to the NFL All Rookie Team, All NFL, and to the All-Madden Team. Reasons helped the New York Giants achieve two NFL Championships with victories in Super Bowl XXI and Super Bowl XXV.

Reasons played his ninth and final season in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals in 1992.

After a successful playing career, Reasons began his broadcasting career with ABC Sports where he traveled the country as a college football sideline reporter and game analyst from 1994-1997. He joined FOX Sports in 1998 and has been the color analyst on several Emmy Award winning productions. He has hosted his own radio shows and been the host or analyst of many studio television broadcasts.

With over 30 years as a network football analyst, Reasons will again be a lead college football and studio analyst for Fox Sports (now Bally Sports) and ESPN. Additionally, Reasons is the Host and Executive Producer of the FCS National Awards Broadcast for Stats Perform and will be presenting a National Player of the Week Award On Campus each week throughout the 2024 FCS Season.
